Embedding transition-metal atoms in graphene: structure, bonding, and magnetism.
We present a density-functional-theory study of transition-metal atoms (Sc-Zn, Pt, and Au) embedded in single and double vacancies (SV and DV) in a graphene sheet. We show that for most metals, the bonding is strong and the metal-vacancy complexes exhibit interesting magnetic behavior. In particular, an Fe atom on a SV is not magnetic, while the Fe@DV complex has a high magnetic moment. Surpris...
متن کاملUnderstanding Structure and Bonding of Multilayered Metal–Organic Nanostructures
For organic and hybrid electronic devices, the physicochemical properties of the contained interfaces play a dominant role. To disentangle the various interactions occurring at such heterointerfaces, we here model a complex, yet prototypical, three-component system consisting of a Cu-phthalocyanine (CuPc) film on a 3,4,9,10-perylene-tetracarboxylic-dianhydride (PTCDA) monolayer adsorbed on Ag(1...
متن کاملPolymorphism in NaSbO3: structure and bonding in metal oxides.
A new polymorph of NaSbO(3) has been synthesized at 10.5 GPa and 1150 degrees C in a uniaxial split sphere anvil type press (USSA-2000) and recovered back to ambient conditions. The high-pressure form of NaSbO(3) adopts an orthorhombically distorted perovskite structure, isostructural with CaTiO(3), GdFeO(3), and NaTaO(3). The space group is Pnma, and the unit cell dimensions are a = 5.43835(6)...
متن کاملThermal stability and nano-structure of metal-doped carbon layers
Carbon layers doped with Ti, V, W, and Zr to about 15 at.% were produced by means of magnetron sputter deposition, which distributes metal atoms homogeneously in the amorphous carbon matrix. The effects of thermal annealing to temperatures of 500–1300 K on the phase, crystallinity and distribution of the dopant were determined. X-ray diffraction (XRD), MeV ion beam analysis (IBA), and extended ...
متن کاملNon-equilibrium in adsorbed polymer layers
High molecular weight polymer solutions have a powerful tendency to deposit adsorbed layers when exposed to even mildly attractive surfaces. The equilibrium properties of these dense interfacial layers have been extensively studied theoretically. A large body of experimental evidence, however, indicates that non-equilibrium effects are dominant whenever monomer– surface sticking energies are so...
